I assume the extra space is at MH side and not toad side. The gard slips over the two vertical pegs on the Blue Ox and has pins that secure it. I use the Blue Oxgard and like it.
Just seems like the lower straight bar that holds the Blue Ox is long. If it were mine and if it didn't cause any other problems I would be tempted to drill another hole in that straight bar so it would slide in further. Length is not a real problem with a toad. Length can be a problem with a trailer. The longer the lower bar the more downward torque it applies to the hitch. My Blue Ox tow bar had two sets of holes in the straight bar I used ones that made the bar as short as possible. I would call Blue Ox and discuss the problem. You might ask them if drilling another set of holes would cause any problems.
