I have a cheap Reese Controller from Walmart in my PU.
It has two adjustments- How much brake force is applied and how fast the pressure is applied.
It also has a button/lever so I can apply the trailer brakes only. With the lever I can apply a little or a lot of braking without the PU brakes.
I can't imagine towing without personal control. I set braking heavier when trailer is loaded.
