Trailer light wiring

I have a 2004 Dutch Star and I have no tail light to my trailer I have blinkers and brake lights. I checked and the 7-way plug on the motorhome has no power to the lights. I believe I have a fuse out but can't find the fuse. I emailed Newmar no help it is a freightliner chassis I called them they were a little help but still can't find fuse. Any help as to where it might be.
  • some rv have two locations ,just start hunting, under the hood and along the area where your feet rest.google a wiring diaghram.
  • Well,
I cannot speak for other manufacturers but, Winne and Itasca have a complete set of "Trailer fuses" in a totally separate location, far, far away from the front of the coach. In ours, an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C0-7 330HP CAT, those fuses are located behind the last panel, (louvered one)that a couple of screws are needed to be removed to raise that panel.

On the some other Itascas and Winnes, that trailer fuse block is located in the electrical (shore power) compartment, behind a removable panel. So, if you have one, I'd begin by looking around in all those rear compartments, tucked up in corner, maybe even behind the rear cap in a corner some place etc. I'd bet you have one for sure, just not sure where.
  • My 2005 Fleetwood Excursion, on a freightliner chassis, has two small fuse panels (under covers) up high in the back of the first compartment behind the right rear wheel. The fuses there control the toad or trailer connections.

Ignore the plywood, it's a shelf I added.

my 2008 bus has the same deal just to be sure its not the connecter check for power where the tail lite wires enter the 7 pole connecter
  • Do the tail lights work on the motor home? Sometimes it's just easier running a new wire from a source that is working. I did this to mine a couple years back.

    I did the same...

Part of our Freightliner trailer light module failed 5 or 6 years ago so I tapped in to the motorhome's right turn signal light wiring in the harness and connected that wire to the RV side of the 7 pin connector for the trailer. Worked until we could get a new module.
