I'd put the cooler in for the peace-of-mind and help keep your trips stress free.
It's a good way to get rid of the extra heat (towing, hill climbing, etc), especially if the cooler can sit in front of the rad (or near good airflow) rather than rely on the bottom of the radiator to cool the tranny oil.
Our rig didn't have one and we started monitoring temps last couple years, and after running in the 260 range too many times NON-towing, we decided to spend the money and have one installed.
All the other vehicles I have that have coolers run lower temps in the transmission, even towing.
If you aren't very mechanical find a good TRANNY shop, should only take a couple hours.
