Finally got a new cable and fixed the problem. Marine cables did not have a long enough throw, the end fittings had a different thread and the cable diameter was too small for the mounting clamps to work.
Finally found a shop in Jacksonville Fl. that was able to make an identical cable. Took about 20 minutes to make the cable and $140 cost.
Still waiting for a response from Winnebago but probably won't hear from them.
