Need cable!

We purchased our Nomad 21' TT in March. It has a wall jack set up with 2 coaxil cable ports. The top one has a button beside it to turn on the digital antenna. The other one goes...no where! I called the dealer and asked if they could run the cable from that jack to the other side where all the connections happen. They said they would be glad to do it for $100! Argh. I think this will require drilling somewhere and I'm scared to make holes. Any thoughts?

  • I used to have a Nomad 186 and I ran a new cable down through the tv stand, under the door threshold, under the bed storage. Under the dinette, through the electrical compartment, and finally out through the shoreline cable hole. It worked great and it wasn't noticeable. It was easy and much less than 100 bucks.

I have a 2010 Skyline Nomad 2601B and I have the cable with the antenna but no "Park Cable" outlet. I bought the tailgater and so I wanted to hook into the existing cableing so I went through the "Entertainment Cabinet" which underneath that is the power cord storage. So I just ran my cable out the existing shore power whole and run the cable when I pull my power cord out. Works great just be careful when you put the power cord back in you dont push the cable all of the way in our you will have to re-run it! (Not that I would EVER do something stupid like that.......twice! :S :S :S )
  • Roy Ken,
Thank you for your descriptive reply. You are correct that there is no external cable connection - just the "dummy" coax jack in the camper. We like the digital JACK antenna but would like to have cable too. Hubby and I have decided to do it ourselves. I appreciate your time!

AFter re-reading again I think maybe you don't have an EXTERNAL CABLE TV connection installed on your trailer. I guess some come that way??? I'm surprised your trailer doesn't have one installed.

This should be an easy thing to add. Only a small holes goes all the way thru the wall of the trailer and come up inside a cabinet on the inside. Then just a couple of self tapping screws to hold the flip door connector to the wall. Use the RV DICOR sealant behind the outside wall connector...

The external FLIP DOOR Cable Connector looks like this

Or pay the dealer $100 to do it...

I was trying to better understand what the question is I guess... Your 18-foot trailer floorplan is basically a one room setup with bed on one end and bunk type on the other end with the TV Console sort of in the center... You should have a cable TV connection on the outside of the trailer.

There isn't much room to add a second TV in this floorplan setup as I can determine.

On the inside there should be an antenna wall jack that looks like this which is the DC source for a roof mounted type crank up BATWING antenna.. Some of the newer trailers are coming out with the JACK antenna on the roof which only rotates. The large socket is a low current (6-8 AMPS or so) 12VDC cigarette light type plug. The F-Connector is to be connected to the TV set. The Black pushbutton applies 12VDC to the roof mounted antenna built-in PREAMP when pressed. A small led light comes on when the the button is pressed..

Does your trailer have the roof mounted "Over The Air" Antenna installed. It should have a crank setup in the trailer ceiliing

The roof mounted OTA Antennas is what you will use to pull in the local towns High Definition Natl Broadcast digital TV signals. We usually pick up 6-36 local town digitla signals just about anywhere we go here on the East side of the US.

    This is the Batwing Antenna.

This is the JACK Antenna that only rotates.

Some JACK antennas can be raised up as well just like the BATWING...

Again I got lost in the question you was asking and what you are wanting to do...

    Just my thoughts

  • My Puma has a plate like that in the living area where you turn on the antenna booster and then another plate in the bedroom where the TV is hooked up. I checked the one in the living area just to make sure it works. It did.....
  • mike.t:
I removed plate to see where it went and there is nothing connected to that one. I had dealership call manufacturer and, sure enough, that is an "extra". Funny that my pop up had cable LOL.

Thank you for adding the specific instructions on how to make that hole leak proof. I think we are going to have to make a hole :(
    I appreciate all the responses!
  • I believe the other one is connected to the back of the trailer for cable at a rv park. How do you know it goes no where did you remove the plate? If so disregard. Plus a $100. sounds cheap and if anything goes wrong it's on them

  • The easy way out would be a flat video cable out a door, window, hatch, etc etc.

If you want something permanent, then that will require drilling a hole for the connection. Make sure you use butyl tape putty behind the fixture, and then seal all around with proflex rv sealant.
