I haven't heard of a transmission burping out fluid since my old cast iron Powerglide GM transmissions. With them there were a few causes but primarily it was because the transmission couldn't vent and it built up pressure and fluid came out the filler tube after you shut things down..
Are you sure that it was not over-filled with fluid?
Did you check the two cooler lines on the passenger side going to the radiator for leaks?
