BTDT! My 63 Chevrolet Impala aluminum Powerglide did that once too when I overheated it by towing a trailer leaving a huge smokescreen. Added a quart of fluid and all was well once again.
To the OP: Running the engine up to temp once a month doesn't necessarily bring the transmission up to operating temperature or cycle the fluid through all the clutches. You have to drive it a few miles to do that. I would drive/run it up to temp again, check/add fluid if you need to and can, then, see what happens. Don't assume the worst without more serious symptoms than an occasional fluid leak. If it keeps burping fluid, or isn't shifting properly, then you may have issues.
Of course, you should always attempt to locate/repair the source of the leak before driving if you can.
