I think Americans have warmed up to smaller engines and,especially diesels which are doing well in Canada too. If the power to weight is ok a diesel would be a good optional engine choice and i think, popular. I love my little diesel grinder. 32mpg(Canadian) on last trip pulling heavier PW Plateau TS.But mlts is right about diesel starting.The diesel which is an oil anyway, gels up and without pre-heating the vehicle will not be happy about starting up, In cold climates in the US and Canada people usually have block heaters for their gas engined cars. Up North in Alaska or in WHitehorse you will see diesel trucks idling a lot. I experienced a -50 winter period in ALberta where we kept the pickups running for hours.Not an environmental positive but otherwise they froze up. Otherwise, diesels do well in moderate climates such as where I live.
