Seems like this thread has been hijacked and is now about "what qualifies as camping?" instead of the OP's original question which was:
"....Is there really little reason to have an RV if you don't want to dedicate your vacation time to camping? How many still fly and stay at nice hotels or do you spend every vacation night in a roadside RV park, night time parking lot, and a campground when you get there?...."
I think the OP wants to know how many people feel that since they invested in an RV, they now have to use it for every vacation?
the only time we've spent in motels since 1986 was the occasional quick, winter trip from Chicago to SW Florida and back. probably a total of less than 25-days in 30-years. otherwise it is all RV, all the time. love airplanes (I'm a general aviation Sport pilot), hate the airlines...the lines, the delays. not a big fan of rental cars...the lines, the cost, the waiting. motels? no, thanks. give us our own beds and bed linens, our own food and no packing/unpacking of suitcases. for us it's not cheaper since we have no kids. but it's a much better way to travel.
