Traveling with windows open?

This seems like a silly question, but is it ok to drive with the awning type windows open on the coach?

  • For the same reason as Bruce we always keep all windows and vents closed. Learned that early on.
  • On my older coach, even having a vent open will draw a vacuum on the bus and make the windows flex and click. This drives the DW nuts.
  • A bigger issue will be stink. With the windows open you'll cause low pressure inside and your inside will become the best system vent you have. The smell of the tank vents isn't too appealing.

And yes, we learned that years ago when we were rookies, just as you might think we did. :B
  • I would never drive with any windows open - too much risk to the windows and/or screens. I will, however, drive with roof vents open (we have good vent covers on them to protect the flimsy hatches that come with the OEM vents and fans).

  • I'm guessing you're talking about windows that are hinged on the top and the bottom swings out.
I do not drive with mine open. Maybe it's okay but, my concern is the wind tearing them off.
I will drive with the sliding windows open.
  • I think those that you crank open would be OK, but maybe not those that you push out with a bar that holds them open (like the emergency windows). Some of those continue to open and release at the top. You might get a surprise.
  • Maybe same principles but larger effect as driving a car. Higher gas consumption because of the drag, net of differential with higher consumption for a/c on, when driving with open windows.
  • Possibly for you but I wouldn't drive with any windows open.
