Trouble filling my fuel tank

I'm getting under the motorhome tomorrow to check the vents and all hoses. I watched a video of mud dabbers blocking the vent. Since this RV lived most of it's life in Florida that may be the problem.

You have a clogged or pinched vent hose or no vent hose at all.

did you get the recall a few years back on the gas tank? winnebago and Ford were arguing about who was to blame, they ended up splitting the cost. one issue was that the old original tank had a anti spill sock thingy that hung in the tank and could block the flow. the metal fitting at the fill point had a small "J" in the tube that could get gas in it and block the vent. some had a tube within a tube for venting which caused problems. the first attempt by winnebago was to move my filling fitting up as far as they could, only about 1/2 inch. did a tiny bit of good. but lifting up one side with jacks did help.

Heres what I do with our 99 H/R Vacationer, 79 gallon tank.
During gas stops, I use the front & rear leveling jacks on the drivers side, to lift & tilt the RV up on that side. Once tilted, it has the fuel tank at an angle so that the inlet is higher than like when sitting level.
With in sitting like that, it will almost fill completely before the nozzle clicks off.
Once it does shut off, I can pull the nozzle just about out of the opening & then rotate the nozzle in an upward agle & completely fill the tank.

I did check out the hoses on ours, making sure there was no kinks in them, to disrupt the flow of fuel into the tank or venting & found the large inlet hose to be lower than the inlet on the tank, so I installed a prop type of thing to level out the inlet hose for a more direct flow into the tank.

Just filled my 1999 gasser and it seemed to work fine...all...65...gallons...went...in..fine...and rang up fine...unfortunately...;-)

The tank's 75 gallons total, so maybe I just had plenty of room for it to vent and not cause back pressure on the nozzle to make it kick off. Definitely make sure your vent is not blocked. Could be a dirt-dauber nest or something else...and it could be an inherent problem with your particular setup. Good Luck!!

I had a truck with two side tanks. The previous owner had installed a crossover so you could fill the tanks from either side. He didn't do a very good job. Some pumps worked fine, others it was nearly impossible to get gas in the tanks. I found that if I held the pump handle nearly upside down, I could get the difficult pumps to work.

The key is to pump at a slower speed or hold the pump at an odd angle.
