Trying to choose

We are looking to upgrade out 1998 Tiffin Allegro and have found 2 different coaches that have caught our attention. They are really close in price and one is about 30 minutes away and the other about an hour so that's no issue. The 2 we are looking at are a 2000 Tiffin Allegro Bay with upgrades inside and a V10 with a Banks system installed on a F53 frame. The other is a 2000 Coachmen Catalina diesel pusher on a Freight liner chassis. At this time I haven't seen either in person, just pictures and talked to the dealers some. If anyone has an opinion on this please help me out, thanks in advanced!
  • My coach now is pretty much a base model, no slide, levelers or power anything. I bought it few years ago knowing it needed some "TLC" to see if we really like having a motorhome or not and we found out we do. Don't get me wrong we like ours but would like to move up a little. You are correct that the unit is only 2 years newer but the amenities are vastly different.

Think of it as moving from a 1998 Chevy s-10 to a 2000 Chevy Duramax 3500 dually crew cab (don't know if they made either those years but its an example). Both are trucks and only 2 years apart but way different none the less.

My main concern is the reputation of the Coachmen, I already know about Tiffin's reputation, and if anyone has any personel experience with either coach.

need info? Miles on each unit? what diesel is in the coachman?
any slides involved? condition of tires ? asking$$ of each?
these are 18K units so not that big of a deal

Both are around $25,000-diesel has about 106,000 miles, gas 78,000-1 slide each-edit...tires a couple years old on Allegro, I don't know on Coachmen yet. (had to double check my notes)

Mike, just wondering, can you move up a few notches more? A unit just 2 yrs. newer than what you have currently is not that much different. You know your coach backwards and forwards I'm sure so going to a new coach that is 14 yrs. old would need a major inspection.

If the two new possibilities have had improvements maybe a switch would be good but is it worth the difference than what you have now?

    Just curious.

  • The Freightliner chassis will be a good reliable chassis. Can't help with the other questions.
