TV replacement

Thank you all for your input. Yes, my repairman was only joking about increasing my milage and no, I won't replace it myself it probably weighs almost as much as me.:B

I just replaced my old analog LCD Sony with a visio LED. I get more stations from different city's than the LED in the house with a tower antenna. Best of all I got rid of that dumb converter box. Mounting the TV was the easy part, the hard part is replacing the cherry wood bezel around the front of the TV. Had to order cherry wood because no one around here stocked it. Had to make the bezel, route it to match the existing cabinets and now in the staining process to match existing cabinet color. Getting close to finishing it, maybe by next weekend.

You need a new repair man if he believes that.

I just replaced the 32" analog TV above the drivers seat. It is, IMHO, a silly place to put a TV as there are no seats that actually face the TV. I mounted the new 32" LED low on the wall across from the sofa, so we can actually sit on the coach, facing forward, and watch TV. The old TV enclosure? I put doors on it. Now we call it a cabinet.

Don, No! I have a 04 Sony in mine and it hasn't gave up yet. And, I'm not into fixing something that is working great, but I will get a flat screen when it's time! But, like you I should get better fuel milage when the time comes! That TV of mine looks like it weighs just shy of a ton. I removed my old TV, the ***** is real heavy and it's on a down hill slant so be very careful. There was a bolt in the back holding the TV in place that when released could have caused some serious hurt, but luckily didn't.

I put in a 39" LED, 1080p that worked out great. It extends outside the cabinet to about 1/2" on either side of the adjoining cabinet doors. The LED is about 2" deep on the inside, so all you see is the screen and frame which is about 1" +/- a little bit from the side.

I installed a fully articulating arm, which is totally not needed so I tightened up the joints so they don't move (I have heard some say they use bungee cords to keep the TV in place when moving, so they can have the articulation arm). The angle of the cabinet works just fine for me and mine.

Having removed a net weight of maybe 150 lbs won't change my MPG because I intend to eat more?

Mine is currently on its last leg and I'm also looking to replace it. The cabinet was custom built to handle the exact size of the TV and I'm having trouble finding an exact size replacement. The screen is a standardized 32", but the enclosure is anything but standardized. I might have to construct a new cabinet face to match the new TV.

Replacing the unit is an easy job, but you'll need to make sure that the new TV has the same amount and type of inputs on the back. I'm finding that mine has many more than anything I can find on the market today.....and of course, being six years old, it is out of production so I can get an exact replacement.

As mentioned, if your current unit is a CRT, then get some help pulling it out as it will be heavy and bulky. After that, the rest is a piece of cake.

Replaced the TV's in our previous coach with LCD's and was very pleased with results. Was able to upgrade to HD and, yes, the flat screens were so much lighter. A bit of modifications to the openings was required but the end results were nice.

Current coach already has LCD HD TV's so that is one upgrade I will not need to do.
