Tv turns off when key is on

Hello! New here and to motorhomes. I recently bought an El Monte Tioga 25G and would love some help figuring out how to be able to have the tv on for the kids while we're driving. It has a Jensen 12V tv and as soon as the key is turned to the on position the tv turns off. Is there a way to keep that hot without ripping the motor home apart?
  • The previous reply is correct, but depending on where the TV is located, what you want is possible, generally very easy. Apparently the power to it is through a relay to the ignition system, easy way is just to find another 12V power outlet. If you can find the cutoff relay, you should just be able to disconnect the wire from the ignition.
  • Thank you for the Replys. Where the tv is mounted it is impossible to watch the tv while driving and there is no other 12v outlets available. I'm trying to avoid and ghetto wiring or cords strung out everywhere. I'll try and locate the relay and see if there is something I can do there.
  • 71chevelle, I also have a motorhome from El Monte. It is a Tioga. I also disabled that device, since the tv is too far back from the driver and not visible to him. The wall plate looks just like the 110 volt receptacles, and should be brown in color, with a label on it. With all 110 volt power disabled, remove the wall plate, then cut and cap off the two wires (not the 110 volt wires) that come out the side of the small box).

Are you SURE about that ??
At the very least, there should be an outlet in the dash and a cord could be run up and over a door jamb back to the back for the TV.

If you really are worried about the appearance, it could be removed when not in use.
  • 71chevelle, I still have my old wall plate which has the device that cuts off electric power to the tv (send me a PM and I will send you photos). My tv works on dc and ac, but has a regular 110 volt cord, which was plugged in to the 110 receptacle. If your tv has a connector which plugs into a cigarette lighter type receptacle, like someone said, you should be able to find another one close by. On my motorhome, I have both types of receptacles next to each other, but only the 110 was blocked with the ignition key.

If you have to ask you must be looking to start an argument.
