I can't say with 100% certainty that this is true, but my 2003 Dutch Star pump failed about a year ago and the shop said they see this happening and the newer pumps have a different seal/gasket material and seem to be lasting better.

Yes, that is the explanation-- a gasket material incompatible with ULSD.
Also, have seen no indication that additives prevented the failure.
