In all vehicle design the engineers come up with their initial design and then it is priced out by the accountants. More often than not there are compromises made in design and/or materials to meet a price point that will return a profit. Along with this minor glitch in vehicle design, materials are always improving and costs for the new and improved materials almost always decrease. So the improved materials that may have been costed out of the original design sometimes creep in to production as its price decreases. It is entirely possible that these pumps would have experienced this failure on LSD. Good luck. I hope yours does not fail but if it does the fix is obvious.
