SC counties have a personal property tax on cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, etc that is assessed on an annual basis and must be paid prior to tag renewal. It can be quite steep but diminishes over time. Motorhomes can be registered as either a vehicle or a second home ( at least in my county ) which affects the tax rate. In my county you have to reaffirm the status as a second home on an annual basis but can be done via email. I can't ever remember getting a tax bill from a town or city for a vehicle and I've lived here all my life. Like I stated in an earlier post I think there is more to the story than what was presented.
