Sounds like you have a fuel pump problem. You were running 60 mph and shutdown with no slowdown or cool off period (pulling in gas station or parking). Oil and engine at temp at this point it will get hotter for about 15-30 minutes then start cooling down. Check all grounds and change pump and filters problem should be corrected. While you have the pump out drain and wipe out fuel tank. I have seen the heating problem several times. I have checked several vehicles with a thermal camera and infrared thermometer.
I just installed a heavy duty ground cable directly to the engine from one of the starter bolts and then to the frame. It did appear to dramatically help the starter. It usually starts okay, especially after the batteries been charged all night, but this time it started instantly. As for the fuel filter, the current filter only has 750 miles on it and an hour earlier it gave me no problem during a fairly long period of high gas consumption climbing over Tejon Pass. Unfortunately, I'm not in a financial position to pay a mechanic. As I mentioned earlier I've replaced a fuel pump in the past and really don't want to do it again. In addition, the tank currently has about 59 gallons in it. I'm going to wait and see with the ground issue some more, hopefully that may have been negatively affecting other engine systems such as the fuel injection.
