I had a similar failure with my Ford 460. After being towed to a Ford truck center, it ran fine. At the instruction of a Ford representative who was there the next morning, the fuel pump was bench run and after 7 hours the fuel pressure dropped indicating I was experiencing intermittent pump failure. That was in 1993 and I am still running fine on the replacement pump.
