Boy howdy! I’ve been getting some great replies to this thread.
Like Heisenberg I’ve been thinking of installing an in line backup pump. Like mobilefleet (and several others) I’m also thinking about going the access hole route through my floor, though there’s ductwork under the floor that may get in the way. I also like sjholt’s tip about the “thin-film” problem. I had that special Ford misery laid on me by a 1984 Mercury Marquis I was unfortunate enough to own years ago. What a POJ! I still have the special grease, hoped I’d never need it again. And finally kaz442 I’ll check into that EEC relay and see how it might apply to my problem, if it’s a problem I like cheap fixes!
I really appreciate the time and effort folks here have put into helping me solve this problem. Though I haven’t actually solved it yet, I’m extremely confident that with all y’all’s help a cure is on its way.
BTW PUCampin’s comments early on about ground cables finally solved my weak starter problem. Except for the earlier mentioned 1984 Mercury that I inherited from a relative, I haven’t owned a Ford product since I purchased a new Ford lemon (aka Topaz) back in 1983. I wondered when I replaced my starter how such a tiny starter could crank a 460 V8, it does by sucking up huge amounts of amperage. My engine was probably grounded just fine under normal circumstances with a normal sized starter, but oh no, not enough for a teeny tiny Ford starter. Ford = Freakin Overhaul or Repair Daily, and now I own one again… Oh good! (Heavy sigh).
Thanks again for everyone’s help here, sorry I had to vent at the end, I’m just not a Ford fan today like I was as a kid.
