Uninformed buyers-Rant

Please indulge me for a few, while I vent. I recently listed my motorhome for sale in two different forums. I especifically stated the price was not negotiable. I have had several callers. One offered me ten thousand less than what I am asking. Others asked about slides, size, mileage. All that information is listed. What is wrong with these people? Don't they read? All callers sounded like in their mid 20s. I expected to hear from older callers. It seems each caller was totally uninformed and did not even know which ad they were asking about. I had to pry it out of them. What is happening?

  • I've posted my current RV for sale in two forums as well with a lot of details but no specific price. Have had some obvious scammers respond, but most people seem to be interested. However most seem to be really negotiating with themselves over wether they really want to buy or not. It can be frustrating, but I understand the process they're going thru. I know for myself I really struggle internally trying to decide to buy anything over $100. LOL
  • please indulge me. do you mean if you put the price as $100,000 not negotiable and somebody walked up with 99,500 cash you would say no? nobody is that foolish.

  • Of course it could also be that the callers are trying to get information from you so that they can take your ad, post it somewhere else, and try to scam people that respond.
You've seen those obviously bogus ads that show pictures of actual motor homes for sale by someone else. Where do you think these criminals get the information for their ads?
  • So lets get this straight...You listed something for sale, you're getting calls from prospective buyers and your whining about it? :h
  • If you're prying information out of potential buyers you're going to have a tough time selling your rig. Every time I've sold anything of value, I've had to put up with folks asking questions stated in the ad, trying to negotiate price, etc. It comes with the territory and you'll have to either deal with it or sit next the rig for a long time.

Also, they may ask you questions whose answers are "in the ad" to make sure you're a legitimate seller and actually have the RV you've posted for sale. If you state a mileage, number of slides, size, etc., that is different from what they read in the ad, then they don't waste time on a scam.

Yep, there's a lot of scams out there, and sometimes people make honest mistakes when writing ads.

    Everything is negotiable. :)

  • I've heard that if you say 'price firm' or 'price not negotiable' that it is a death sentence for a sale. Why say that anyway? Mark it up a few bucks as everyone wants a discount or something included in the sale.

I like old cars and look often. If I see an ad that says 'price firm', etc., it's a turn-off and I move on. Only if the item is EXACTLY what I'm looking for I'll consider it, otherwise, I'll pass it by.

Welcome to retail......where you will always meet the lunatic fringe.

    MM.
  • Never list anything for sale at the price you want for it. Everybody expects a reduction from the asking price. It's just what we do. You should have added $10k more than you wanted and then negotiated. It's just how you sell big ticket items.
  • Same as always......

Nothing different today then days of old.

Folks don't read, comprehend that which is written.

    Besides.....everything is negotiable :B
