I don't know that I would go so far as to state "snake oil", but in my uneducated opinion such products are just as much a waste of money as "enzyme treatments" for a septic tank.
Since my home sewer system IS a septic tank, I have done a lot of research on the care and feeding of such systems. The consensus of opinion seems to be that everything a septic tank needs is contained in the waste from a human body. NOTHING needs to be added. The same authorities also state that such enzymes take at least a week to do any good, so putting such products in an RV holding tank is an exercise in futility.
My personal experience agrees.
Sound far from an "uneducated opinion" to me, more like a decent understanding of basic biology and septic systems. As a builder, I would hand every customer a pile of paperwork from the state DEP, regarding their newly installed on-site septic system. The "user manual" portion of the documents include a statement that no additives were necessary in a properly operating system, and that some additives can be detrimental.
As for the claims of magical enzymes for a HOLDING tank, well there's one born every minute, as Mr. Barnum once said.
