unusual smell

late today my wife and I picked up a smell that smells like the chemical used in giving a woman a permanet. My wife has not had a permanet recently. We cannot find anything in the MH that gives off such a smell. I mentioned that the MH next to us had his propane tank filled this afternoon, but we only smelled the odor late this evening. I do realize that our MH's are close together but this smell does not smell like rotten eggs. I have been told that propane smells somewhat like rotten eggs. Any info would be appreciated if anyone has an idea.
The smell is not coming from the sewer area. I have put the usual sewer chemicals in that tank.

  • Check the fridge carefully. I opened mine one time and the leaking ammonia was so strong it burned the edges of my lips and face and I nearly lost consciousness.

    Is it an ammonia smell? If not how old is the MH? If it is fairly new it could be the foam core or other plastic materials out gassing. It is more noticeable with the widows and vents closed.
  • IF (not necessarily saying it is) the refrigerator, turn it off immediately until you prove it is not, turn it OFF. Risking a fire is not worth it.

    As others have asked, use your nose to locate the SOURCE of the odor;

    Water (water heater).

    Refrigerator (inside) and at the outside access door.

    Batteries (bad battery or overcharging).

    Gray or black tank-- lack of water in P trap, back check valve, bad vent.
  • x3 -- unless you had a scare like me where an ammonia bottle was left open in the sink, the fridge is toast.

  • Is the odor stronger in or outside? Front or back of coach? Windows are open or closed?
