- deandecExplorerMy front shoes looked virgin at 101,000 miles.
A bit later the rears looked just fine also.
The chassis is a Gillig Bus chassis. - crassterExplorer IIFor me, it is not really about miles, but how those miles were driven. A lot of mountains, stop & go situations or long stretches of highway with little brake use.
- mtrumpetExplorerWell, my Dutch Star has 103,000 miles on it and as of last summer when I had it into Spartan Chassis for Ball Joints, they told me that I still had at least 60% remaining on my brake pads.
- JimExplorerWhat I've read is that using your engine brake a lot could get you as much as 300,000 miles from your brake pads. Though 150,000 is mentioned more often.

When I sold my 2000 Holiday Rambler DP on a Freightliner chassis last year, it had about 110,000 miles and the shoes had at least 50% of their lining left. I did not use the exhaust brake extensively either.

Sounds like mine might just go for a lifetime then. My lifetime, that is! - fcooperExplorerWhen I sold my 2000 Holiday Rambler DP on a Freightliner chassis last year, it had about 110,000 miles and the shoes had at least 50% of their lining left. I did not use the exhaust brake extensively either.
Fred - Tom_BarbExplorerI've changed one right front shoe set, for oil contamination, over serviced at the service center.
50k miles. - tropical36Explorer

So how many miles have you gone before you replaces the brake shoes on you Freightliner chassis? Drum brakes all around.
Just asking
I would be interested in knowing for a Spartan chassis, as well.
Seems that they last near forever, if one always uses their retardant braking system. I have a PAC exhaust brake and never turn it off.
