Hi bud
Well it looks like scroller may have blowen my theory out of the water.
After looking at this thread I could find only 1 post about over heating.
I too would like to know what the out come is, and the fix.
In passing, I used to have a Class A with a 454 and towed a trailer with all the toys that weighed 5500lbs loaded. It never overheated while towing to the high desert, while a friend had a class C with the same motor that would overheat, our mechanic, a very good one,
who said that he always had complaints about the Cs but not the Class A.
He did everything to solve the overheating problem as everyone has suggested here. From coolant to bigger radiator and all that. And concluded that it was the nature of the beast, being that the Class A had a much more open engine compartment as mine did and the Class C did not and could not dissipate the heat as well. I know that he was very frustrated that after all the fixes that he tried nothing seemed to work to his satisfaction. Good luck and I will be watching to see the outcome, I don't tow but may some day.
I sure hope someone comes up with a solution to this. It could be we all have different solutions. I have been monitoring forums and trying to find out the fix for 3 years. As I stated in an above post I have replaced several parts but I can't afford to just replace everything in the cooling system especially if the outcome isn't any better than what I have now. I was about to pull the trigger on a new radiator but NTORACN saying his looks like it might be fairly new has me holding on this idea. I came across a guy in an older forum that was having the same trouble with a newer 6.0 in a PU towing and took it all the way to GM following the appropriate channels. He never found a solution and was trying to force a TSB on it to no avail. Really frustrating because I towed over 200,000 miles with my Ford f-150 5.4 and never saw the gauge move more than 10°. Of course it didn't have a coach on top of it. I know a guy with a Chevy 6.0 delivery truck that he converted that had the same problem and know another vendor that was towing a cargo trailer with a 6.0 PU that had the same problem. Both of them have since sold their vehicles. I use my MH for business and as it is now leave on some trips at 2-3:00AM just to try to beat the heat. In 2 weeks I have to make another trip across the Nevada desert and will have to schedule my driving over 2 days instead of 1 just to try to drive when the ambient air temps are cooler. I have never had to drive in 110° but have always worried what I would do if I had to. As it is now when I'm driving a pass during above 80-85° ambient air temps I turn off the AC shift way down and baby it. If the coolant goes above 230° I turn on the cab heater(The wife just loves this. I send her to the back and turn on the coach AC).I don't really think that it's Class C related because I haven't noticed a lot of guys with the Fords complaining of this problem.
