We bought thinking the same as you. We found a 2001 Beaver Contessa 40' with two slides and a CAT motor. We purchased it 4 years ago from a private seller. Mileage was at 31,000 so was still low. In the last four years we have had a few issues, but mostly just replacing the plastic vent covers, resealing the roof, chasing a few leaks, etc. When we bought it the tires were due changing which was our biggest expense of course. There are tons out there and it took us a year to find the right one. We are still happy with what we got...
If going older this is the way I've always figured I'd do it. Private seller who has taken really good care or it. Not to say you can't find this on a lot but it's just a numbers game. A pristine coach that has been barn stored and is photographed in front of a 1,000,000 house has a much better chance to have been well cared for than something sitting on a lot with nothing more than some Armor All on the tires.
