I keep track of the initial purchase cost divided by the number of miles driven which is currently 1.47$ per mile. When ever I get the urge to buy a new one this factor is revealing.
This so much reminds me of Office Space's TPS Reports. That is, reports done for the sake of doing reports.
I used to do this stuff too (mea culpa) when I was a cubicle monkey. For example, a bank I worked at counted keystrokes as a measure of efficiency. If some project was projected to take less keystrokes, then it must be better than a project that took more typing. You betcha.
OP, by your measure, the more miles you travel, the less your per mile number, and the lower that number, the "better", right?
If so, that means a bad distant camping trip is better than a great local trip.
Stop the TPS reports.
