I think it's funny that anytime an analytical question comes up about RV's it always turns philosophical. Tells me that analytics and Rv's simply do not mix and that people buy Rv's because they want to, not because it makes good financial sense. Throwing numbers in the mix just sucks the fun out of it.
Then there are those that watch every dime and every MPG. Putting up curtains and makeshift "efficiencies" to maximize each drop of fuel and kilowatt. Seems like a stressful way to approach RV life, but to each his own. I try not to judge. Sometimes I'm bad at it.
Personally, I knew when we bought our MH I was going to take a loss. That's one of the reasons I bought a cheap one. But the main reason was because we like to travel and have fun. I wanted to create lasting memories. And I know my son won't want to travel like this forever. We like to travel in the most comfort we can and we like having our own stuff. I mean MH travel is really about as good as it gets. I have NEVER tracked MPG since I bought our first one. I have no clue if I am getting 6 or 10. And it wouldn't change our plans even if I did know. I rarely look at the receipt when I buy fuel. And it's not because I am so flush with cash that I don't care, it's because I can crunch numbers all day and at the end of it, it is what it is. If I want to travel in my MH, I am going to have to buy fuel. And it's going to cost what it costs when I stop. And stressing over which station to stop based on the difference of $.20 a gal isn't really worth the added stress. When we sell I know about what I can let it go for and have accepted that.
