Very curious

Edit: please reply to this thread if you travel in a MOTORHOME only.

I've been curious about this for years. When reading reviews of campgrounds/RV parks very frequently I've seen comments about the cleanliness or lack of cleanliness of a CG restrooms and showers posted by reviewers who state they travel in a motorhome. All motorhomes I've seen have their own bathrooms. In the ten years I've camped in a fifth wheel I've only used a CG restroom once... And that was because we had reservations for dinner, and only half an hour for our family of four to get ready.

So can anyone tell me do those with motorhomes really use the CG restrooms? If so, why? I'm honestly curious about this.
  • Most of the time, it's to conserve on water and avoid filling the grey water tank too fast.
Sometimes, it's because we want a really long, hot shower.
  • We use the MH and not the campgrounds. I don't like using public facilities if I don't have to, plus it is quicker since I don't have to walk to it. I have had a number of fellow RVer's tell me that they use the CG facilities because they do not want to fill and empty their holding tanks. JMO
  • I use my own shower in my motorhome but I do usually check out the bath house. That way I can give it a cleanliness rating when I write my campground review.
  • It's a logical question. As for a "correct" answer, well, as you can see and read, there is no correct answer. Everyone has their reasons why they do or, don't use camp ground showers/rest room facilities if, they've got a nice motor home they're traveling in. And, it doesn't have to be a class A, it can be any version of a motor home or, travel trailer that's self contained.

We have a very nice motor home. It's an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330 CAT and, I've used the C/G facilities all over the place. I don't ALWAYS use them, it's my pick or choice at the time. I don't, never have, and never will take "LONG" showers so, that's not one of my reasons for using them. My showers are "navy" type showers. ON, wet, soap, rinse, done. But, as one poster stated, there's usually much more room in a facility shower than the one in the coach. And, based on time frames, the wife will use the one in the coach and I head for the one in the campground.

Yep, there are some that I walk into and, turn around and walk right out of because they're just to darn dingy to even think about showering in. Others, well, let's just say I've been in peoples house restrooms that are not nearly as nice as some of the campground/RV park ones I've visited.

So, again, it's just a matter of opinion. Use them or, not. Good luck.

  • Because they paid their monies and decided to use the facilities.

How long is a piece of rope?

    Who cares :H
  • DH likes to use the CG showers if they are nice as he is able to take longer hot showers and the showers are a bit larger than the one in our Class A. The other reason is that we try to go 5-6 days before we dump the tanks and using the CG showers helps with that. We don't leave the dump hose hooked up during our stay.
I use the RV shower but conserve water. Works for us.
  • Some of us camp year round. When the campers are winterized, we use the bath house restrooms and showers. I prefer to shower in the bath houses because the shower in the Colby T is barely big enough to wash a chihuahua.
  • Absolutely do not use them. One of the main reasons that I travel in a motorhome is so that I do not have to use public restrooms.
  • There are a variety of reasons ranging from "I use the RV shower for storage." to "After a long day driving I enjoy a long hot shower.", with many more reasons in between. The bottom line is that all of the reasons are just as valid for the individuals that choose to use the CG facilities as your reasons for using the RV facilities. Maybe all of the reviewers that comment on the CG facilities have large families also. :B
