Those kind of things are so cool. I try to say thank you to those that I can identify as past or present servicemen and women. It is very pleasant change when wearing a Marine hat to have someone tell me thank you as it is much different than at the end of Vietnam when I was in.
This coming Christmas season many young GI's are given leave and as a condition go to Mall's and walk around. I always offer to buy them a coke or coffee and talk with them. I also try to take the I'm invincible attitude off them and say just stay low don't try to be e hero, that will come. MOST OF ALL come home to your parents and loved ones. All the medals and awards in the world hanging in a shadow box will not comfort your mother if you get dead. Yes I'm ate up with PTSD/survivors remorse.
