Despite the overall lack of patriotism in many today, at least some folks do seem to appreciate those in uniform. That wasn't the case when I was in the Navy (75-81), but none of it compares to what the poor Vietnam Vets had to endure.
On the bright side, for the first time in my life someone actually thanked me for my service when it came up in a conversation last year. I found it amazing how good that felt even 33 years after I got out.
