Video of a 2012 Westfalia Sprinter Van

Hi everybody,
in another thread about CB and ham radio, I was asked by WoodGlue to show you some interior pictures of my Westfalia Sprinter Van.

Actually, I only have one of the dashboard, but I do have a video of my van: youtube.com/watch?v=y0VKU6PxntY

Most of the German texts discribe what you see. Here are e few important translations:

  • warmwater floor heating
  • compressor fridge with freezing compartment
  • upper bed 94.5" long, 59" wide

Enjoy
Peter

And you are also right about the wind issue. When I drove through the plains of spain on a really windy day, I had to stick at 55mph. If there ist no wind, the RV is good for 100mph (in Germany)

Glad to hear that senility hasn't been completely successful yet.

So much of my driving is in the prairies of central US, where a 25 mph wind is considered a "light breeze" and when there is no wind, you kind of look around and wonder where it is hiding... and when it will suddenly appear and push you around. It takes so long to get somewhere when you have to slow down below 55. :B It is why I switched over to low and streamlined and I barely notice the wind now. In RVing everything is a trade-off...

Must go check out the new links

The Amundsen is a lowcost version of the Columbus

This car (Columbus) has the same Diesel-powerd water heating (with optional floor heating) like my James Cook.

Btw, the 360° interior shot was done by me :-)

And even on the Volkswagen chassis, the build a conversion with bathroom and shower. click here

  • Everything about that conversion is excellent. For me, I don't care about shiny veneers and granite cooktops. I like the fact that the water fill cap locks, the vehicle is so easy to winterize, the heater/water heater, how one can deploy the upstairs bed and still use the tables below, pretty much everything about it. It is higher, but the foot of height adds considerable versatility.

(Edited) I just visited the Westfalia site... it appears that they added a model on the Ducato platform, the Amundsen. Would be nice if they could sell that in the US. I'm sure there is a pent up demand for anything Westy.

It's been a few years now since they sold this unit in the US. I think it was Airstream who imported it? Or does my memory fail me again?

    Hi Mumkin,
your memory works fine :-) Every single word is correct. I can tell, as I owned a RV of this type for 11 years.

You can see a lot of the Airstream version, if you watch this Video

And you are also right about the wind issue. When I drove through the plains of spain on a really windy day, I had to stick at 55mph. If there ist no wind, the RV is good for 100mph (in Germany)

(sorry for the blurred image, I had to stay focused on the traffic)

The previous ones here had a very industrial feel on the inside. This looks more luxurious. Love the heated floor idea... and this one also has a better fridge set up than the ones they sold here. It was a fridge OR a freezer... couldn't be both at the same time. In the previous unit sold here the bathroom was in the rear. I couldn't quite tell, but it looked like it was on the side of this unit.

But the height scares me with the regular strong winds that we have in the mid section of our continent...
  • Jamescook,
Thank you. Impressive rig. I am a great fan of European van conversions and this one is impressive. I noted 2 batteries and the bath/shower set up is amazing. Where can I buy one here??
    AL
  • Excellent! Thank you for posting it. Love that floor heating, and all the sleek Euro fittings.
  • Really great setup you have there! Excellent use of space! Spiffy!
