Redjeep,
I look at it this way. If, while you're traveling and, you're out in the middle of nowhere, (and on a trip like that, you'll be in the middle of NOWHERE quite often) and, a $2.00 part brakes on your coach rendering it, completely inoperative, can you "scooter" a hundred miles for a part? I think you know the answer to that.
Another point, if you or, your wife or, one of the kids, or both the kids get sick or injured, in any way, can you "scooter" them to the nearest doctor which, could be miles and miles away, with injuries or sickness? I'd bet you know the answer to that too.
Do you see what I'm getting at? The maneuverability of your coach, is WAAAAAAAAAAAY down the priority level when it comes to thinking about the potential issues that can crop up at any given time.
Another potential: You're in the RV, in campground/RV park someplace, with the kids, it's been raining cats and dogs for a few days. The kids are getting SERIOUSLY RESTLESS and have just a bit of CABIN FEVER. Pretty tough to go scootering in that kind of inclement weather. Not to mention the guaranteed time you'll need to go shopping for food, supplies, toilet paper, something for the coach, and a whole lot more.
So, to answer your questions: NO, I would not EVER leave home without a toad. It matters not, any form of lack of maneuverability decrease in terms of the coach while driving when, the potential for the absolute need of a toad is always there. And, then there's the ability to just get out and drive around to see the local sights, go to a county fair, and much more.
