Yes I would fully charge the battery when you're done camping and disconnect it till the next trip.
Walmarts are everywhere and the battery warranty can be good. Batteries are decent.
I have solar, have the AGM batteries, and not concerned about accidental discharge. But lacking this gear, just top off your battery at end of trip and disconnect. If it is long time between trips put a trickle charger on it occasionally. You'll then be doing more than most.
