Sounds like a salesman's trick to make you feel obligated so you'd come back and let him close the deal. If you didn't give him any $ then I don't think its a contract.

You might start with calling him and saying your circumstances have changed and you are no longer interested. He'll probably whine a little then say thanks anyway and goodbye.
