We recently purchased a 34' Newmar Ventana LE diesel motorhome. We traded a 41' Revolution Le on it and had a 40' prior to that, and a 36' prior to that. When we started looking I was definitely leaning towards a gas unit, but after driving one, I just decided that the two of us couldn't go back to a gas. The quietness and smoothness just won out for us.
No question, the diesel will cost signficantly more than the gas when purchasing a new one. However I dispute folks who believe they are more expensive to maintain on an ongoing basis. We have not found that out at all.
I would never say that someone is "wrong" to buy a gas model. As I said, they are much more reasonable to purchase. Our choice for the diesel was strictly a personal one based on our particular peculiarities.
Best of luck to you whichever kind you purchase.

It doesn't matter the size of your rig - the diesel will cost less per mile to operate whatever it's pulling. That's just the facts. I'd never own a gasser coach - not something that weighs in nearly 8 tons and more. Every way I figure it, the gasser would cost me a lot more to own/operate.
