Warning signal or ?

If you turn the radio up does it go away?

I have changed the belts and idler pully...sound is noted from the outside of the coach and again appears to be coming somewhere from the rear 1/3 of the coach...I have opened all the access/storage doors to no avail..."muffler bearings" don't think that's the problem...

Squealing in the back of the coach at idle and not moving? An interesting exhaust leak?

But seriously I have had vacuum leaks that have driven me crazy tying to figure out what and where is was. The thing that helped me diagnose this was the sound continued a few seconds after the engine stopped. My not be applicable to your situation but worth a thought.

Muffler bearings can only be packed with elbow grease!




Does the sound go away when you place the trany in gear and or driving, take the beauty hubcaps off, there might be one that is loose.

Also you can check the fan clutch too see that it is free when stoped and does not have any play, then take the serpentine belt off and run engine, do not run it too long! No noise then check all rotating components, alternator, power steering pump, belt tenssioner,iddler pulleys, and if equiped with air pump, check it too.

Check that the exhaust hangers are all ok, shake the pipes and see if they are O.K., also check the motor and transmission mounts if one has collapsed it might be metal to metal and/or some other part touching, also the shields to the catalitic converters, or the shield to the muffler and/or the exhaust piping.

If the cabin and the house sit on the rubber mounts attached to the frame make shure that they are not collapsed, check that the rear bumper is not loose, empty all compartments and take off any towing/hitch parts and test for noise.

Also make shure that the gray and black tanks do not move, dito for all the pipes, also check all the fuel lines and the fuel filter, if yours has a rear fuel thank make shure that it is bolted correct, also check the brake lines at the rear end and along the frame.

If you still can not locate the noise, Have a cold beer, eventually you will find it.

Thanks Navegator (I would have been a smoking hole had it not been for a good navigator)... I will make the checks as you advised, exhaust may be the source but sounds electrical (?)... the squeal seems to be centered near the rear on the drivers side...this one is challenging my "I can fix'it" abilities...Cheers/John

A long shot but is it vibration in the exhaust system which brings out a squeak? I had it happen one time, continuous squeak which sounded like a squeal.

Push on various parts of exhaust system with your shoe when engine is running (when things aren't too hot). It may change the nature of the sound if that is what it is.

I'd also check fuel pump and tank venting system. Any kind of backup alarm system which has run amok?

Your fuel tank is near that area and it is vented some way. You might start the engine and then remove the gas cap to see if the sound changes. A cracked vent hose might squeal as air leaves/enters the hose.

One time we had a screeching sound one one vehicle, turned out to be a small stone lodged between the brake rotor and the back plate, drove me nuts trying to find it, finally spun the tire and heard the grinding, took tire off and out came the stone.

And yes I was the NAVIGATOR on board the KYRAMARIA for some years, when I wanted to use the moniker for some forums the word had all ready been used so changed it to navegator, it serves its purpose.

Good luck with the noise, sometimes it is a benefit to have selective hearing, some times I do not hear the wife!

Could be the fuel pump itself.
