I've owned 3 RVs; every one of them was at least 10-12 years old when I purchased, and the first 2 I used for at least 10-15 more years. My current rig was purchased at 13 years old; I have no doubt I will still be using it 15 years from now. Old does not mean a POS; if it did I'd have been left at the dump long ago! I prefer to think of myself as "distinguished".
You've been given a great gift; the chance to dip your feet into RVing without a major outlay of cash/payments. As maillemaker said, EVERYTHING does not HAVE to be fixed in order to enjoy your RV; choose your battles. You do not need a cross-country trek right away, camp close by. In time, you will get a feel for what your RV is capable of and what it isn't capable of. What you already have, even before any repairs, is a step or two up from tent camping, so enjoy the experience!
Its funny, I used to want the latest and greatest. I ended up with an old 93 vette, a 2001 silverado and an 82 nighthawk motorcycle. For some reason I get more joy out of things I can fix and maintain and most importantly, own. Put this RV on the list. I guess thinking and doing things to make them better or more dependable makes me happy. took me a while to realize that, and a lot of stupid financial decisions.
Im going to really enjoy this thing, and the wifey is coming with.
