DW leaves washer door open after using. Just enough so it doesn't trap odors. Instructions say to leave open. Also says to shut water off after using. However, one night with the door open it started running by itself. Magic things happen with electronics. Water came out onto the floor. I shut the door and the whole thing locked up. Needed to be reset. Power breaker would not reset it. Has to be totally unplugged. That means the black and white wire has to be broken for reset. I never checked out why. PITA. I installed a 220 VAC switch that breaks both white and black and easy access to that switch by DW. That switch will reset the washer. I Also installed water valves to washer with easy access by DW. When finished my DW can easily shut off water and power. Fortunately our stacked units have some bottom access. Both water and power are behind a easy removeable panel.

I have no idea why that washer started all by itself. I have an eternal EMS so there should be no surges. BTW we bought this MH new and W/D was factory installed.

you can leave the door open till the cows come home but the grey water seal will get a musty smell. as far as turning water and power off after use? to each their own. I in all my years have never seen nor heard of such a bizarre happening. weird for sure

As others have said clean the door seal thoroughly, look for mold and mildew on tbe seal and leave the door open so the machine dries out between uses.

Cup of bleach directly in the drum, run a complete wash cycle. Leave the door open to allow to air dry after.

But that does not mean that letting it dry out as much as possible after each use doesn't help.....because it does.

If there is a removable "tray" where things like soap and fabric softner get put in, it can retain a fair amount of water after a load too. It probably can be taken out easily and dumped after each use.

Check the owners manual for recommended cleaning. When we did that, we found a clean-out door with a screen behind it. YUCK.

And finally, every 10 loads or so run it empty with a quarter to half cup of chlorine bleach. Too much bleach can actually damage stuff if it is a reduced water design......which most front loaders are.

X2 Vinegar works great. So does apple cider vinegar. It kills molds.

I must be doing something right cause my Splendide Ariston model stacked washer has never had an odor. I just went and stuck my head in the washer and it smells like the Tide detergent I use for washing. I've never cleaned the front seal other than wiping it after each load and have never left the door ajar on the washer or dryer. My washer has the stainless drum and I'm assuming yours does as well. The bleach idea sounds logical to me.

My washer retains a lot of water in the boot. After I finish washing, I dry dry between the folds of the boot. Never had any odors.
