Water filter stuck

The blue container that holds the whole house water filter will not release. I have used an oil flter wrench but it will not move. Turning counter clockwise and afraid i will break something. Any advice?
  • The right tool/wrench, maybe a little gentle tapping with a rubber mallet, it should free up. When you do get it off and go to putting it back together, you might want to replace the O-ring, and be sure to hand-tighten ONLY. Don't use the wrench for that. If you can't get it tight enough to not leak, it's a sure sign that the O-ring is toast.

You should try useing a pipe wrench

Hate to disagree but a pipe wrench big enough for the body of a filter would have to be enormous and would wouldn't have jaws deep enough to wrap around a filter housing. If it did, I suspect it would crack it.
Best me thinks to use the appropriate filter wrench shown above. Right tool for the job and all that junk.

Yep. One of these + tap it with a rubber mallet. It works with my Big Blues . . .

  • A filter wrench near the threads will squeeze it and make it tighter. Move the wrench down or get the proper wrench.

No, he said he's using an oil filter wrench. Spray liberally with a silicone spray, wait 20 mins and try again....Dennis
  • Have you opened a faucet and relieved system pressure..then turn filter to the 'left' (counter clockwise) to loosen
