water heater hot not hot at faucets

More than likely a lot of you already know this but two days ago our water coming out the faucets was not hot, so at first I checked the water heater element. This is on a 2004 Southwind with a 10 gal. Atwood heater. It was not the element I called Atwood they thought it might be the check value after replacing the check value still the same problem. Then I called Fleetwood, they asked was the outside water faucets in the water bay on, I had forgot and I had left them 0n and they were still on and just because water wasn't coming out it affects the water heater so the temperature is way down. I never knew this would happen thank you Fleetwood Customer Service.

  • Nothing weird about it at all. The same thing can happen in a residence when a shower is equipped with a handheld shower head with a separate shutoff that's left off with the valves on. It may take longer for the problem to show up in a residence, but that's just a function of the longer pipe runs. It can be fixed with a set of check valves at the inside and outside faucets, but it's probably not cost effective for the few times the issue occurs.
  • It does sound weird. Sometimes I wonder if RV mfgs should really tone down on the "save weight" issues and simply not skimp on the plumbing. We need good plumbing!
  • YEP......anytime fixtures are left valved in (not turning off using the hot/cold knobs) the fixture itself becomes a 'mixing chamber' which allows the hot/cold to mix diluting the hot making LUKE WARM water

Same thing happens after de-winterizing'........bypass on WH gets left open or not fully closed. Again LUKE WARM water due to hot/cold mixing

Glad to hear Fleetwood Customer Service was aware and clued you in.
Most just don't have a clue and diagnosis issue as a problem with the WH itself like you found when calling Atwood :S

BTW bad check valve results in limited flow on hot water side or NO hot water flow.......not luke warm water
Same with element..they heat or don't
  • Happens all the time....folks leave their outside shower valves on but have the hand held sprayer off...thus no hot water inside at faucets.
