Water leak from fridge

We are in our second week in our 2008 Monaco Knight. The fridge has begun to leak or make condensation (don't know which) that allows about 1/4 cup of water to accumulate on the floor in the morning. I haven't seen it during the day and the spot dries up with a fan on it. There is even more water on the outside of the coach on the pavement below the slide out with the fridge.

I've taken the outside inspection cover off and there are no leaks there. The white plastic flex hose that feeds a weep drain at the bottom of the slide is broken and I will replace it. With that said, it is dry where the hose is broken. The area is also dry.

Does anyone have any ideas where to begin to look to trace the source of the water? I can only see access from the lower and upper inspection plates outside and they have not helped.

  • It turns out we have/had multiple problems. First, the fins were iced over and dripping down outside the drip pan. We had filled the fridge too full and had he door open too long I guess. We were able to clear a lot of that and it helped.

Second, the ice maker line had two pinhole leaks. The cheapo plastic was pretty brittle so we put some of that rubber-sealing tape stuff and that is now a slow seep. We will need to get that replaced but I bet it will be expensive from what I've read. I can't physically pull the fridge and will have to pay to have that done.

Third, the drain lines from the drip pan were so crunchy brittle that would fall apart when you touched them. I'll need to get those replaced and resealed.

Thank you all for the information. Between your advice and the internet I now know at least what is wrong. I appreciate you.
  • I had a buildup/blockage in the drain pan on the interior under the fins. Took apart and cleaned.
  • We had this same type leak --- it was the roof vent cover and it needed old caulk removed and resealing done. We used eternabond tape and re-did everything on the roof and front and rear cap seams also. Our leak showed up in heavy rain and the carpet was wet at the one side. When we looked in the outside compartment it was all wet in there too - try checking there to see if you have water.
  • My ice maker hose had come loose from the fridge. It caused the same problem.
  • Turn the water supply to the Icemaker OFF and run the refer for 24 hours. IF no water leak you have narrowed the problem down to the Icemaker system. The odds are that the EXIT side of the Water Icemaker solenoid is leaking-----The icemaker cycles about every 2 to 3 hours to dump ice. IF there is a leak between the water solenoid valve and the mold of the icemaker on top, then that would leak every 2 to 3 hours. Doug
  • I do have an ice maker. I'll check for pinholes when I get back this afternoon. I had more or less ruled that out because it was mostly happening at night. Perhaps that was just coincidence.

I'll also check for the drain line. I didn't see the pan but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place. Thanks for the advice.
  • You did not say if you have an ice maker. If you do you might check the water feed line to see if you have a leak. They can get a pin size hole in them. Ours did and it can show on the floor.
  • Slobber tube must be vented to the OUTSIDE to prevent floor damage from draining. Hose should protrude through the service panel door.
  • Look under the fins inside at the back of the refer. It is possible the drain hose has become disconnected from the drain pan and or the drain pan has moved and is not far enough under the fins to collect the condensation. Good luck.
