Water system problems on American Dream

Well I'm perplexed.

When I put the MH into storage a mouth ago the water system was working fine.

I thought it would be a good idea to drain the tank while it sat.

Filled the tank today, and everything works of shore water.

Close the bypass, disconnect the water, the pump runs but no water anywhere.

It seems to build air pressure, let it run and open a valve and air comes out for a short time.

It acts like the pump suction from the tank is not under water (tank is full)

  • Ok...checked this morning and no leaks, the fitting on the bottom of the tank was damp, it is obvious that this has happened before as the 90 elbow below the fitting has the green crud on it. There were no drips from it at all (had paper towel below it to indicate drips and there were none).

I hand tighten that fitting just a touch more and will leave it until I return from this trip.

So...I wiped out the whole inside of the water station , looked really nice, and forgot to take a picture.

Cleaned up all the station panels and reinstalled them.

As you may have noticed I did not put back in the winterize connection, more on that in a minute.

Wiped out the compartment and put the bins back.

There was (as there always is) one casualty. The winterize connection must have had a plastic washer between the feral in the neoprene pipe and the pipe fitting. It is broken.

I went to Home Depot, but our area does not use neoprene pipe (not code) so they carry no parts for it. It is Sunday so all the RV supplies stores are close (well maybe not CW but with the current on going disagreement on the quality of work done on the last visit I'm not going there (Camping World Problem)

I'm thinking I could put an o-ring in there and it would work, but on Monday I should be able to locate the correct part from some place.

As it is the winterize connection and the ball valve inside the compartment is closed this does not present a problem a the present time, the system works without it.

Any ideas where I can get the parts?

Nice looking coach by the way!

    MM.

Sure wish I knew more about it.
  • Ok, filled the tank until water came out of the overflow.

    Now everything works fine.

The only thing I can think is the sensor is at the front of the tank, the tank is very shallow and long (runs the entire length of the basement roof between the frame rails), and the RV is in my driveway which has a pretty good slope.

I'm starting to learn a lot about the systems in this RV.

I left the tank full, I'm sure now I will have a leak out of one of the fittings, I hate plumbing.

I'll check everything in the morning, if no leaks put it all back together.
  • Ok...More information.

I got ambitious, took the covers of the water station.

The filter is not clogged, the pump sucks on the suction side and builds pressure on the pressure side.

Traced the plumbing and the feed line comes through the wall and appears to go into the bottom of the tank.

removed that fitting and there is no water, tapped along the tank and the tank seems to be empty.

I watched the gauge fill the tank and indicates it is 3/4 full???????

    Really strange.

Think I will hook things back up and fill until I get water out the over flow.

Are there internal baffles in the tank?
  • open the drain line near the pump until water flows out of it. Close it and try the pump. ( I had a system that required that drain line be full of water as opposed to air.)
