Bumpy is correct here. The OP hasn't given a lot of information, but it clearly sounds like the seller went to great lengths to hide this damage and did not tell the buyer about it. The buyer should ask about any known damage, but is not obligated to. The seller is obligated to disclose. Not disclosing this damage may even be criminal. The OP was 100% correct in not going through with the deal and if anybody has the right to be angry, it's the OP, not the seller.
