Just like buses, fire engines and other large cabover vehicles, the long rear overhang ensures good front/rear weight distribution. Same reason that front engine motorhomes have long rear overhangs. I've seen those front bars on most rigs in Australia, lots of big critters on the roads. With all the deer we have in the West, I'm surprised that these aren't standard on trucks here.
