Yep, same applies to snowbirds from Canada. However, if you fill out and submit the proper form there is no problem. Don't have the link to the form and regulations, but I'm sure someone here does.
Would like to see that form too - I await with interest to see if someone can provide a link.

Form 8840 needs to be filled out if you qualify.
(note the form if you have an interest bearing bank account in the US).
