West Coast Refrigerator Repair

Norcold 1200 went out. Trying to decide if I should replace it with a residental refrigerator. Any recommendations of places in CA, NV, ID, OR, WA, MT would be appreciated. I have an 06 Alfa See Ya 40ft.

Thanks

  • The Dometic in our 11 year-old MH died last season, just 2 days before we were leaving for 3 weeks on the Oregon coast. We managed for two weeks, buying ice every day. We must have hit every Fred Meyer store on highway 101!

We gave up at 16 days and headed home. We decided that a residential fridge was a possible sale killer, and we expect to give up the RV life after this season. We went with our preferred repair shop, JR's RV Repair and Maintenance in Sedro-Wolley. A new Dometic, which fitted into the space the old one occupied with no modifications needed, set us back about $1800. With more modern insulation, the new fridge is about 15% roomier than the old one. They were able to change out the fridges through the house door.

My gut feel is that, if your gas/electric fridge is over 10 years old, you should seriously consider replacing it. Ours had the dreaded yellow powder round the base of the flue, so we knew it was a goner.
  • Oregon Motor Coach Center in Eugene did ours a couple of years ago. Seem like good folks and we're happy with their installation.
  • (n SalesTaxFreeLand (Portland Orygun) is Laurelhurst Distributors , besides being just about the Go To Warrenty Station for all RV Applianess, they are great to work with!!!! And they FIX appliances that are replaced under warrenty then re-sold/installed at a very reasonable price.

Then why are most of the coach manufacturers today, installing residential refers?
  • Since Deer Park is near Spokane, going to Portland, Oregon, might be further than you'd like to go, but Camping World in Portland sells and installs. If you go to Portland, they won't charge any sales tax.

  • I would recommend trying to find the fridge you want at Goedekers They have low pricing, free shipping, no sales tax (outside of MO) and offer a 10 year warranty on the compressor.

For installation I would recommend Coach Masters of Bend in Bend, OR.
  • Amazing Creations in Junction City,OR just installed our Samsung 197 which replaced a Dometic 12cuft.

You buy your refer at Home Depot, have it delivered to Amazing and they do the rest. If you are a vet, take proof and take another 10% off the cost of the refer.

Cheaper and safer that repairing the Nocold
  • If you rarely if ever dry camp then a residential is the cheapest way to go. Seems many folks use the Samsung refer. Dont forget to add the inverter and extra battery.
