West Yellowstone to Casper Wyoming

We are thinking about travelling from West Yellowstone to Casper Wyoming in our Class A pulling our toad. We will be travelling on Hwy 20 and 26. Could we run into problems. Parts of it are seasonal. We won't be in the winter or even late fall. Thank you for any advise.

  • Just ran that today, part of it. I took 14/16/20 out of the park and stayed on 16 this time. I left the west entrance of Yellowstone and drove 248 miles to Ten Sleep WY in just under 8 hours. You will learn to drive mountains if you do not know yet. Gear way down and use your exhaust brake. Inside the park is very slow going with the people and animals.
  • Other than in Yellowstone there are no big pulls. It's a very nice ride.
  • We did the same route in mid October when we were there last with no problems!
  • I see most of you are in diesels. What about in a Ford V-10?
  • We did it two years ago in the opposite direction. Easy route with no problems...Dennis
  • It has been 40 years since I have traveled that section of roads, but if memory serves me right it is all 2 lane road and a lot of it is sharp corners and s curves. I would tackle it in out 33 footer with our toad, but anything much larger is going to make for slow going and I would not try it in anything bigger than a 40 footer even without a toad.

Your best source if information is to call 307-344-2117 to get road information and to get the limitations of vehicle length inside the park, and they will be able to give you the Wyoming Dept of Transportation for the other road information and length restrictions.

    I hope this helps you.
  • Thats a good route for what you intend on doing. Winter time...NOPE...but summertime...definately
