Has it always run hot or has it gotten worse as time goes on? While you have the radiator out you could add a upgraded fan and a heavy duty fan clutch. look hear

I don't know. I bought it with a blown engine in Dec 2013 and put it on the road in May of 2014, so "always" is only 2 seasons now. Maybe it got too hot on the previous owner? Dunno the history since I bought it from the towing company. The #3 piston came apart and demolished everything. I put a low-mileage GM Performance crate engine in it, truck spec. A new water pump and hoses were part of the swap. It runs really nice, but hot in the warm weather. Now that you've posed that question, however, I do know it NEVER got as hot last season as it did on my trip to Hershey this season. So I guess it is getting hotter.
The clutch for the fan is new, but I could look into a heavy duty one. My dad actually has one that he used during his TT towing days that he's been trying to push off on me. He says it's centrifugal rather than thermostatic like the stock-type clutch I currently have.
I'm going to have the radiator recored anyway - it's 30+ years old and probably due. Plus I've gone through all this effort to remove it.
